Become a guide and show off your home town!
Prior tourism experience isn’t required, but local knowledge and strong self-motivation are essential! We look for charismatic Sydneysiders who speak confidently in public, bring energy, and have the drive to learn historical material independently. If you have the commitment to study our content and pass our audition milestones, we want to hear from you.
This is a casual, flexible position. Since our Sydney walks depart daily from Town Hall Square, the role pairs brilliantly with university timetables, acting gigs, freelance projects, or other flexible work commitments.
Our guides earn competitive compensation tied directly to their delivery on the tour. You receive a guaranteed base payment structured under Australian Fair Work guidelines, supplemented by the potential for a share of guest contributions at the end of every tour. High-performing storytellers make a great hourly rate.
Scheduling is adaptable. Most active Sydney guides host between 2 and 5 walks weekly depending on their personal availability, seasonal tourist spikes, and roster demand.
Guides are required to be fully available between the 26th of December and 5th of January.
Our selection pathway is driven by you. We provide you with comprehensive historical scripts and route layouts, and you take the lead in memorising and mastering the material. You’ll demonstrate your progress through live presentation checkpoints and practice evaluations before hosting your first solo walk.
Guiding involves standing and walking for up to 3 hours per shift over a 3.5km route from Town Hall down toward the harbour. We operate in all weather conditions—we equip you with our official bright raincoat, so as long as you have good physical endurance, vocal projection, and sun protection, you’ll thrive!
Apply directly through the link on this page! It’ll prompt you to share a bit about your connection to Sydney, and attach a short 60-second video introducing why you think you’d be a great Sydney guide.
