Become a guide and show off your home town!
Prior tourism experience isn’t essential, but an authentic connection to Melbourne and strong self-motivation are musts! We look for locals with natural stage presence, public speaking confidence, and the discipline to learn historical material independently. If you have the commitment to master our content and pass our audition checkpoints, we want to hear from you.
This is a casual, flexible position. Because our Melbourne walks depart from the State Library, the role pairs brilliantly with university schedules, performance gigs, freelance creative work, or other flexible jobs.
Our team earns competitive income directly tied to their performance on the tour. You receive a guaranteed base payment structured under Australian Fair Work guidelines, supplemented by a potential portion of guest contributions at the end of the tour. Engaged, high-energy storytellers make a very rewarding hourly rate.
Rostering is adaptable. Most active Melbourne guides run between 2 and 4 walks weekly, depending on their availability, seasonal tourist influxes, and team schedules.
Our audition process puts you in the driver’s seat. We supply comprehensive historical resources and route details, leaving it to you to study, memorise, and refine the narrative. You’ll present your delivery through live checkpoints and trial walks before taking out your first official group.
Guiding involves standing and walking for roughly 3 hours per shift over a 3.5km loop through city streets and laneways. We walk in four seasons in one day. Don’t worry we supply our official bright raincoat. So as long as you bring strong vocal projection, good footwear, and weather resilience, you’ll do great!
Apply directly through the link on this page! It’ll give you the opportunity to tell us why you love Naarm / Melbourne, share your current availability, and attach a brief 60-second video introducing why you think you’d make a great guide.
