During this 2½-3 hour, easy-walking tour we will uncover the rich history, diverse culture, and iconic landmarks of New Zealand’s most popular city. Your friendly and knowledgeable tour guide will guide you through the central parts of Auckland, including its scenic gardens and landmark buildings before wandering down to the waterfront.

Along the way we’ll share stories about Auckland’s Māori beginnings and successive colonial development as well as interesting stories about what makes Auckland the city it is today. We’ll also cover things to see and do in Auckland especially those that are free, to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.

This tour finishes near The Hilton Hotel on Princes Wharf, just a short walk from the Ferry Building and Auckland waterfront. Click here for Google Maps directions.

The walk covers roughly 3–3.5km (1.5–2 miles) over an easy, fairly flat route. We walk at a leisurely pace with commentary stops every 5–10 minutes.

We wait 5 minutes at the start point before stepping off. If you are slightly behind, we head east through Chancery Square to Bacons Lane, then towards Emily Place.

Yes! The route uses public footpaths and pedestrian precincts, making it accessible for prams, strollers, and wheelchairs. Whilst we largely avoid uphill’s on the route there are some downhills that are a bit steeper than a standard wheelchair ramp. 

Yes, there is a 10 minute break about halfway through near clean public restrooms and drinking fountains.

There’s zero upfront cost! At the end, you decide what the walk was worth. Guides carry digital card readers for credit/debit cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay, or you can use cash.

To keep group sizes comfortable, organised groups and groups of 10+ aren’t accepted on public walks. Please book a Private Tour so we can give your group your own dedicated guide!
