We’re on the hunt for passionate Auckland locals to join our crew! Since 2009, I’m Free Tours has transformed the way travellers experience Australia and New Zealand by connecting them with enthusiastic, knowledgeable local guides.

We operate as an active team of tour leaders—including our founder—dedicated to helping every guide master public speaking, build confidence, and develop a wealth of local knowledge about our city.

No formal tourism qualifications are required! We look for enthusiastic Aucklanders with infectious energy, public speaking confidence, and a deep, genuine knowledge of Tāmaki Makaurau / Auckland. We are looking for guides who can share authentic local insights and stories with visitors.

We offer flexible, casual walking tour guide roles. Because our Auckland public tours operate on a regular scheduled basis from Freyberg Square, it’s an ideal job for university students, actors, freelancers, or anyone seeking work that fits alongside study or creative commitments.

Our guides earn competitive income directly linked to their performance! You receive a guaranteed base structure compliant with NZ employment standards, alongside a potential portion of guest contributions and tips earned at the conclusion of the tour. Engaged, high-energy storytellers earn very rewarding hourly rates.

Guides typically host 2-3 tours per week depending on personal availability, cruise ship arrivals, seasonal demand, and team rosters.

Our selection process is self-motivated. We provide you with comprehensive historical materials and route information, and it is up to you to study, memorise, and master the content. You will demonstrate your delivery through presentation checkpoints and live trial evaluations until you prove you’re ready to host your first official group.

Guides are on their feet for up to 3 hours per walk, covering around 3.5-4km at a relaxed pace across Auckland CBD’s urban terrain. We walk rain, hail, or shine. We supply you with our official bright raincoat, so as long as you bring solid vocal projection and outdoor stamina, you’re set!
